A Fast and Simple Method for Absolute Orientation Estimation Using a Single Vanishing Point

Absolute orientation estimation is one of the key steps in computer vision, and n 2D–3D point correspondences can be used to obtain absolute orientation, which known as perspective-n-point problem (PnP). The lowest number three if there no other information, corresponding algorithm called P3P solver. In practice, real scene may consist some geometric e.g., vanishing point. When scenes contain parallel lines, they intersect at points. Hence, reduce increase computational speed, we proposed a fast simple method for using single First, inertial measurement unit (IMU) was rotation camera around Y-axis (i.e., roll angle), could simplify estimation. Then, estimate coarse because it contained direction information both frame world frame. Finally, our non-linear optimization solution refining. experimental results show that compared with several state-of-the-art solvers, had better performance regarding numerical stability, noise sensitivity, speed synthetic data images.
